The evaluation of Baku- Old Town by urban image

The concept of cities' readability is particularly decisive in understanding places, determining directions and trusting the space. The organization of urban space and the presence of image elements are effective in the readability of cities. Traditional settlements are important in the identification of urban environments and public memory. Traditional settlements can be the guide for new urban designs with their formal and semantic features. Thus, they contribute to the spatial and historical continuity by providing a blindfold between the past and the future of the cities. The city settlement, which started in İçeri Şeher in Baku, has gradually expanded out into the present. İçeri Şeher is on UNESCO's World Heritage list; It can be accepted as a document that the architectural identity and historical settlement characteristics of the building is well preserved. The aim of the study is to examine the "Baku-Içerin Şeher" region in terms of urban image elements. Thus, it is aimed to reveal what image elements belong to İçeri Şeher. It is considered that the findings from the study area based on the Inherent should be a guide for the new settlement areas and it is deemed necessary to work with this aspect. In the study, survey and cognitive mapping studies are used as a method of accessing information. The data obtained from the survey and cognitive mapping studies are analyzed separately, discussed comparatively with each other and suggestions for the study are developed.
