Transforming the Ilm-i Hendese work of Kirkor Komurciyan to contemporary Turkish accompanied by a discussion of the work

The purpose of this work is to simplify and comment on Kirkor Komurciyan's İlm-i Hendese which was prepared for secondary school students in the late years of Ottoman Empire. To reflect the real depth of the work, firstly, a transcription of the work was made which was originally written using Arabic alphabet in Turkish. Later, the work was translated to contemporary Turkish, sticking to the original content and points made in the overall text, which was important. Checks were carried out on geometry knowledge pointed across by the text and analysis were made accordingly, with regards to the geometry knowledge level of the time and the quality of the geometry education at the time. Although the work doesn't show any new knowledge, and despite the use of the Arabic terms in the work, it has been found that the author has made a substantial effort in order to produce a textbook that is accessible to native Turkish speaker students by attempting to use as many Turkish terms as possible. Although being a textbook originally, İlm-i Hendese with regards to its content shows the extensive contributions of Komurciyan to both late Ottoman and Turkish Republic education systems. Hence, it has been understood that this is a work that reflects the education system of both late Ottoman and early Republic days and with this thesis it has been made available for the literature.
