Abstract (EN)

This work is about KitÀb-ı Tercüme-i Teõkire-i DÀvÿd Fì èİlmi'ù-Ùıbb, which was translated to the Ottoman Turkish by Muhammed Bin Mustafa El-Gûrânî in the 17th century. The work includes the sections of Introduction, Reviewing, Conclusion and Recommendations. The content, aim and material of the work were explained at the Introduction section and at the Method section. In addition to these, it was emphasised on life and works of translator and of writer, and it was attempted to explain significance of the writer in history of Islamic medicine. The copy of the book, which is the topic of this work, was described. There was general information about medical books written from the beginning to the 18th century and academic works on these books in this section. General language and spelling properties of the work and preferred reading in the text were stated through the Followed Principles of Text Generated. At the subtitle of the Followed Principles of Index Prepared, methods of preparing the thematic index were explained. When the method of the thematic index was selected, the idea of revealing the medical terms with the volume of the text was determinative. As known, one of the most distinctive features of medical manuscripts is that most of the words in everyday language are used in different meanings as a medical term. Determining the meanings of these words and distinguishing them from the usage of everyday language should be fulfilled by considering the old medical approach. For these aims, the thematic indexes, which were meticulously prepared with a special investigation, were presented to the academic discussion as a different method of preparing index for medical texts. At the Reviewing section, KitÀb-ı Tercüme-i Teõkire-i DÀvÿd Fì èİlmi'ù-Ùıbb, translation writing was presented. The text had been written with inverted sentences so that it is difficult to interpret some meanings. Therefore the text was punctuated by using "dot, comma, double dot, semi-colon, quotation mark", and arranged with limited spelling rules to show readers how we made sense of the text. Likewise, partly incomplete and left blank places in the text were tried to complete by means of the partial comparison with the Arabic original text of the work. Completions of incomplete or misspelled words in the text were shown with square bracket. At the Thematic Indexes subtitle, medicine and medical words in the text were attempted to examine in detail. In this work, after the Thematic Indexes, a list of entry words written with red ink in the text was prepared with Arabic alphabet system. Moreover, short meanings, synonymies, and humoral characteristics given in the text -if available- were shared with the readers in this list. At the Conclusion and Recommendations section, the findings obtained in this work were aligned. Key Words: Medical, the book of medicine history, vocabulary, classical ottaman Turkısh, Dâvûd-ı Antâkî, Muhammed Bin Mustafa El-Gûrânî
