Abstract (EN)
Objective: In this thesis, it was aimed to retrospectively examine the records of the Radiology Unit of Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine between 2020 and 2022 and to classify the long extremity fracture cases seen in cats and dogs by breed, age and sex and to classify the fractures radiologically. Materials and Methods: A total of 253 animals (n=253), including 112 cats and 141 dogs, which were brought to Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital Surgery Clinic between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2022 and examined radiographically, constituted the material of the study. X-ray films were evaluated for radiologic classification of fractures, taking into consideration the species, breed, sex and age of the animal with long extremity fractures. Results: In the statistical analysis, the distribution of the fractures of the animals according to the bones was as follows: femur fractures in 51 cases (46%), tibia and fibula fractures in 25 cases (22%), humerus fractures in 20 cases (18%) and antebrachium fractures in 16 cases (14%) in cats. In dogs, femur fracture was observed in 58 cases (41%), tibia and fibula fracture in 37 cases (26%), antebrachium fracture in 29 cases (21%) and humerus fracture in 17 cases (12%). Conclusion: In long extremity fracture cases, it was determined that posterior extremity fractures were more common, diaphyseal fractures were more common according to the anatomical location of the fractures, transversal fractures were more common according to the shape of the fracture line, and closed fractures were more common according to the skin injury and the relationship with the external environment. Key Words: Fracture distribution, Long extremity fractures, Veterinary radiology.
