The mediating role of rejection sensitivity in the relationship between relations with the family of origins and marriage adjustment

The aim of this thesis is to examine the mediating role of rejection sensitivity between the relations of family origin and dyadic adjustment of individuals aged 20-50 who have been married for at least 1 year. The sample of the research consists of 406 participants, 223 women (54.9%) and 183 men (45.1%) between the ages of 22-50, who have been married at least 1 year in Turkıye. The research is a quantitative study designed in a relational screening model in which the relationships between variables are examined through mediation analysis. Before the data collection process, the participants were given an Informed Consist Form and their approval was obtained, and then the participants completed the Demographic Information Form, Dyadic Adjustment Scale, The Scale of Relations with Family of Origin and Adult Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire. Data were collected face-to-face and online platforms. Following the data collection process, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, independent sample t-test and one-way anaylsis of variance (ANOVA) were carried out using IBM SPSS 29.0.2.0. Finaly, mediating analysis was tested utilizing Hayes PROCESS Macro (Model 4). In the light of the findings, the relations with family of origin was positively correlated with the dyadic adjustment; it was also found to be negatively correlated with the rejection sensitivity. It was concluded that rejection sensitivity was negatively correlated with the dyadic adjustment. Finally the mediating role of the rejection sensitivity were found to be significant in the relationship between the relations of family origin and dyadic adjustment. The findings were discussed within the scope of the literature. The limitations of the study are stated and future studies and recommendations for the mental health specialists were presented.
