Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Fazilet İSLAMTÜRK, Investigation of Adaptation of Living with Stoma and Quality of life of Patients with Colostomy, Hasan Kalyoncu University Health Science İnstıtude Nursing Major Scientific Phd Thesis. The aim of the study is to examine the status of colostomy patients adaptation to their stomatal life and their quality of life. The study was a descriptive and relationship- seeking research made in Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and practice hospital general surgery clinic between 15 november 2016 and 15 april 2017. The sample of the study consisted of 60 volunteer patients who met the sampling criteria at least two mounts and at most 24 mounts after colosty, obtained using the patient presentation form, ostomy adjustment ınventory- 23(OAI-23), Stoma Quality of life scale . The mean age of the patients was 49,83 ±13,85 years, 55.0% were male, 95.0% were married and 43.3% were primary school graduates. Nearly half of the patients (45.0%) were found to have colostomy due to colonic cancer, 56.7% had transient stomas, and 58.3% were living with two to eight mounts stomas. The differences between the pre and post- stoma worship and working status ratios of the patients was statistically significant and ıt was found that there was a statistically significant positive strong correlation between total and sub-dimensions of the ostomial ındıvıdual- related life qualty and ostomical ındıvıduals (p<0.001) . as a result; it has been concluded that the life quality of colostomy patients increases as their adaptation to the life with stoma rises.
