Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to examine the perceptions of benefits and barriers to exercise, spinal appearance, fatigue severity as well as physical self-perceptions of sedentary women who do combined Pilates and non-Pilates in sample groups categorized by determining their physical activity levels. Female individuals defined as sedentary according to the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) were included in the study. The study was conducted with 70 voluntary participants, including a Pilates group (PG=35) and a control group (CG=35). PG was enrolled in a combined Pilates exercise program for 50 minutes three days a week for 10 weeks. No intervention was given to the CG. After 10 weeks, the evaluations were repeated for both groups. According to the intra-group comparison data of the Pilates group, a statistically significant difference was found in the results of physical activity levels, barriers to exercise, benefits of exercise, benefits and barriers of exercise scale total, scoliosis appearance scale image subheading, expectation subheading, fatigue severity scale, physical self-perception total (p=0. 001, p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.00, p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.000; p<0.01). According to the intra-group comparison data of the control group, a statistically significant difference was found in the results of the benefits of exercise, the total of the benefits and barriers of exercise scale and the scoliosis appearance expectation subheading (p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.026; p<0.01, respectively). In the intergroup evaluation, statistically significant results were found in the mean results of the physical activity level, the mean results of the barriers scale, the total score of the benefits and barriers of exercise, the score of the appearance subheading for the scoliosis appearance scale, and the mean results of the fatigue severity scale (p=0.001, p=0.043, p=0.030, p=0.028, p=0.019; p<0.01, respectively). As a result of the study, it was observed that the combined Pilates exercise program provided awareness in the perceptions of benefits and barriers to exercise, improvement in the scoliosis appearance image sub-heading and reduction in the severity of fatigue, but no change in physical self-perception between the groups. We think that more studies are needed in future studies on this subject.
