Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine user participation in the process of house design in accordance with the design process, the relationship between user and his house, the concept of participation and the participatory design methods. Within this aim, related concepts are discussed, information is given about participatory approach methods in house design and the design processes of the houses built in the study area within the determined period are examined. The examination on houses built between 1960 and 1980 in the city of Adana showed that two architects (Zeki Yüzüak and Fethi Dağlık) were the leading designers and therefore it is decided to focus on the houses designed by them. Within the scope of the study, five buildings, each designed by Zeki Yüzüak and Fethi Dağlık are chosen, which are located in the neighborhoods formed as a result of the 1940 master plan of Adana, and are examined with regard to the plan organizations, the design processes and the actors involved in the design processes. As a result of the examination in accordance with the common principles of user participation methods, it is revealed that user participation was not primarily involved in the process of house design in the city of Adana between 1960 and 1980.
