Abstract (EN)

The urban settlement of Tokat Province has hosted different civilizations throughout its history. It is seen that there have been designs from many periods throughout history and up to the present day, and that construction techniques based on the period in which they were designed were used. Traditional Tokat houses are historical documents. It is seen that today's designs are reinforced concrete structures due to living conditions. Two regions are discussed within the scope of the thesis; Fatih Street and Bey Street in Tokat province. First of all, the definition, concepts and features of the facade in question are discussed, and the definition, concept and features of the house that affect the facade design are mentioned. The history of Tokat, its location, its physical and geographical features, and its impact on economic activities were examined on site in terms of the facade designs of the buildings on Fatih Street and Bey Street, and the planning, conservation decisions and zoning situation, which were influenced by the facade designs that shaped two different silhouettes, were evaluated. In the silhouette of Fatih Street, where we can observe the change in facade designs in Tokat, it is understood from the facade designs that the buildings have changed throughout the historical process due to the points where daily life affects life, and that they are qualified to meet the needs of social and cultural life in our lives. However, while attention was paid to the side parcels of the registered building to have similar facade features, it is seen that it was designed with today's materials and construction techniques. In Bey Street, which is located in the protected area of the city, the urban identity of Traditional Tokat Houses is formed in the entire street silhouette and this structure should be preserved and transferred to future generations. According to the decision of the protection board for new constructions on Bey Street, construction can be implemented in a way that is compatible with the façade design, colors, facade opening ratios and dimension relationship. The renewal demand of existing buildings is ensured by the restoration project, while preserving their essence and transferring them to future generations. As a result of the study, the facade designs of Tokat in the historical process, which is the subject of the thesis, are examined and it is aimed to show the effect of the board decisions taken in the regions where the registered buildings or structures in the protected area are located in Fatih Street and Bey Street, in line with the zoning status, on the facade design of the restored and newly constructed buildings.
