Conventional sculpture; glass material and transparency

Human beings exist with their individual and social values. In order to preserve this value and even immortalize the valued, the expressive power of the work of art was used. The sculptures, which were put forward in parallel with the needs such as worship and protection in line with the beliefs in the old times, constitute the first examples of this process. Today, works are produced that will shed light on the period socially or personally in the context of values. The idea of preserving these artifacts and surviving for many years has also affected the choice of materials. The preferred materials for the robustness of the works were the opportunities offered periodically and the materials with high strength that can be found in nature. For this reason, artists produced their works from stone, wood and metal varieties, causing the conventional materials to be used more frequently. Production has been carried out with conventional materials for many years, but with the development of the industry, different searches have emerged. This change allowed the choice of materials to increase and the creation of interdisciplinary compositions. With the use of various materials, glass has also taken its place among the materials preferred by the artists. The artists, who shaped the glass with hot and cold techniques, used it together with other materials to highlight the physical and visual structure of the material. Highlighting these effects; Elements such as contrast, light-shadow balance, fullness-space balance have turned into mixed works created by combining conventional materials and glass. In this study, the process and importance of conventional material in the art of sculpture were examined and examples from various works of art were given. The short history of glass and the adventure that developed with its use as a sculpture material, along with the use of conventional materials, were investigated, and the resulting transparency phenomenon was examined. In parallel with the subject of the study, examples were given from the artists who produced, and plastic elements were questioned by analyzing the work with the Semiotic Method.
