Abstract (EN)

In this research, socio-economic and spatial factors affecting rural development in 20 villages of 5 provinces in Küçük Menderes Basin were examined and tried to determine rural development options. Within the scope of the study, 171 household representatives and 20 village headman were interviewed. According to the results of the research, education services ranked first among the investment priorities. The proximity to the center in the plain villages and the natural beauties in the mountain-slope villages stand out as strong sides. The lack of irrigation water in the plain villages and the difficulties in transportation in mountain-slope villages have been identified as weak features. Co-operatation is seen as an opportunity by all peasants in the future. Migration is seen as the greatest threat. According to the results of the factor analysis on socio-economic and spatial variables affecting rural development, nine factors were identified, namely distance to the center, cattle livestock activities, land existence and quality, accommodation opportunities, education services, expertise, access to health services, income and road infrastructure. It may be suggested to consider these factors in the rural development studies to be carried out in the research area. Keywords: Rural Development, Socio-Economic Factors, Spatial Factors, Factor Analysis, Rural Investment
