Abstract (EN)
The aim of the current study was to search the effects of stem cell therapy in rats with short bowel syndrome (SBS). Rats were divided into two groups that each group included 18 rats. Group 1 was be planned as phosfate buffered saline (PBS) group ( not applying stem cell therapy) and Group 2 as stem cell group. In all rats have been occured short bowel syndrome with resection of the proximal small bowel from a point 5 cm distal to the ligament of Treitz to a point 10 cm proximal to the ileocecal valve. In PBS group only PBS ( not containing stem cell) was given to the residuel small intestine wall both jejenum and ileum while at the same amount of PBS that containing stem cell was given to the stem cell group. Rats were sacrificied on the 7th day after SBS operation. All rats were weighed on the SBS operation day and 7 days later. In the stem cell group, weight loss was found to be less than the PBS group. Compared to PBS group, the lenght and diameter of the residual intestine increased statistically significant in the stem cell group. In the stem cell group villus height, crypt depth, mucosal thickness, mitosis and the number of goblet cells that known as parameters of intestinal adaptation increased statistically significant. In this study we observed that stem cells affected positively intestinal adaption in the short bowel syndrome model Key words: short bowel syndrome, stem cell, intestinal adaptation
