Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to evaluate the natural lighting performance of buildings in the context of increasing energy consumption and user comfort. In this regard, the Alanya Municipality New Service Building, which began operation in 2025, is taken as a case study. The primary objective of the research is to examine the natural lighting conditions of a public building within the framework of sustainability through user experiences and to reveal how the relationship between architectural design and daylighting standards is reflected in user satisfaction. The study emphasizes that natural lighting—an essential criterion within the principles of sustainable architecture—should be assessed not only through physical and technical parameters, but also through users' perception, comfort, and psychological responses. In this context, user satisfaction levels regarding daylight were measured through a structured questionnaire based on TS EN 17037+A1:2021 "Daylighting in Buildings." The sample group of the study consists of 147 individuals who actively use and have experienced the Alanya Municipality New Service Building. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS 26.0, and evaluated through descriptive statistics and comparative analysis methods. The findings of the study demonstrate that users' assessments of daylight quantity and visual comfort are directly associated with architectural design decisions and daylight-oriented planning strategies. Moreover, the results reveal that daylighting is not only a component of energy efficiency, but also a fundamental factor contributing to user health, satisfaction, and psychological well-being. In this respect, the study provides original and user-centered data on the impacts of sustainability-based architectural design principles on user satisfaction with respect to natural lighting performance, and aims to contribute to both academic literature and architectural practice.
