Abstract (EN)

This study aims to investigate the effect of cuminaldehyde on cardiac damage and serum arylesterase activity in isoproterenol-induced experimental myocardial infarcted rats. Cuminaldehyde (12.5 and 50 mg/kg/day) prepared in 0.9% NaCl containing 0.4% Tween-80 was administered to male Sprague-Dawley rats as a treatment for seven days, while 0.9% NaCl containing 0.4% Tween-80 was administered intraperitoneally to the control and only isoproterenol-treated groups for seven days. On the sixth and seventh days of treatment, isoproterenol (85 mg/kg/day) was administered intraperitoneally to induce experimental myocardial infarction, and 0.9% NaCl used as a solvent was administered to the control group. Serum and heart tissues were collected from the rats. Troponin T levels were measured using a commercial kit, and arylesterase activity was measured spectrophotometrically in serum. The heart tissues were histopathologically examined and scored. Compared with the control group, the cardiac histological scores and serum troponin T levels of the group administered isoproterenol alone were significantly higher, while serum arylesterase activities were significantly lower. 12.5 mg/kg/day cuminaldehyde administration did not significantly change cardiac histological scores, serum troponin T levels, and arylesterase activities in isoproterenol-administered rats. 50 mg/kg/day cuminaldehyde administration significantly decreased cardiac histological scores and serum troponin T levels in isoproterenol-administered rats but did not significantly change serum arylesterase activities. In conclusion, our study showed that cuminaldehyde reduced cardiac damage but did not affect the decreased serum arylesterase activity in isoproterenol-induced experimental myocardial infarction in rats.
