Analysis of Surah Ar-Ra'd in the context of comparing different approaches to understanding the Qur'an

The Surah of Ra'd contains important topics related to faith, deeds, and morality. There is a disagreement among scholars regarding whether the Surah is Meccan or Medinan. Moreover, some verses within the Surah present certain complexities for some interpreters. On the other hand, various approaches to understanding the Quran have emerged from the time of the Prophet's death until today due to various reasons. In this context, the subject of this study is a comparison of the different approaches to understanding the Quran, particularly focusing on the Surah of Ra'd. The aim of the study is to comparatively explain the interpretive methods of the interpreters considered within the framework of this Surah, the topics they derive from the verses, the conclusions they reach based on their approaches, and the factors that influence them in reaching these conclusions, thereby providing an understanding of the general approaches of the interpreters to the Quran. In this context, when different approaches to the Quran emerged, the main reasons for their emergence, the definitions of the approaches to be compared in the study, the processes they went through, the sources used, and the positive and negative criticisms directed at them are addressed. Additionally, information about the name of the Surah of Ra'd, its revelation and its place in the Mushaf, whether it is Meccan or Medinan, and its content is also included. Subsequently, the general methods in the determined works for narrative interpretation, theological, jurisprudential, linguistic, symbolic, and social approaches are mentioned, and the approaches presented regarding the Surah of Ra'd are compared. As a result of the study, it has been determined that there is a great deal of similarity in the methods, the topics derived from the verses, and the conclusions reached by the interpreters in the comparison of linguistic approaches, while in the comparison of the remaining approaches, there are some differences as well as similarities.
