Local bases of political change in Turkey during the globalization process: The case of relationship between urbanization and political change in Diyarbakir

The global, national, regional and local scale effects that produced by the globalization process, directly determines and shapes socio-economic and therefore political changes in Turkey as well as all over the world. In this context, sociological factors such as migration and urbanization and economic change factors such as international trade and local capitalization play a decisive role in the restructuring of local social structures and thus, local and regional political life. As a matter of fact, the Kurdish political movement inm Turkey, the data obtained from the results of the elections in the last thirty years clearly shows that whose social base is mostly composed of the Kurdish origin population in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, shows fundamental changes such as liberalization in the ideological, democratization and pluralization in the political, civilization and politicization in the strategic spheres. This Thesis is prepared by the aim of to analyse the probable relationships between the socio-economic and urban transformations in the Southeastern Anatolia Region and political change processes of the Kurdish politics in Turkey that observed during the twentieth years, in the case of Diyarbakir.
