Place of the introduction of the Kurtubî tefsîr (interpretation) in the tradition of Koran-interpretation

The present study consists of an introduction and two chapters. The introduction deals with the history of the interpretation of Koran which begins after 3rd century of Islamic Calendar until Kurtubî. The period is divided into three sections namely, the situation before Tedvin, transition to Tedvin and period of Tedvin.The first chapter deals with the bioghraphy of Kurtubî, education and his works. It has been explained that Kurtubî was born in Cordoba (Spain) of Andalusia, lived there until the Spaniards took over the city after which he migrated to Egypt where he spent his life. His teachers and works which influenced him had been explained under the subtitle which identifies the context of his study.The second chapter is the most significant part of the study. This chapter deals with the introduction of Kurtubi?s masterpiece el-Cami li-ahkamil-Kur?ân from the hermeneutic perspective of the interpretation of the Koran. The interpretive methods in the introduction of Kurtubi?s masterpiece have been identified as Koran?s History and History of Koran?s interpretation. Then, the present study attempted to identify Kurtubi?s approach and new perspectives in the interpretation of the Koran.
