Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the historical development of the jewelry design and manufacturing industry, the transformations experienced through industrialization and technology, and the impact of modern production techniques on labor-intensive workforces. As the research methodology, the study involves a review of reports related to the sector from private companies, associations, unions, public institutions and organizations, as well as local and national newspapers, magazines, and relevant local and international books, articles, and research studies. The jewelry industry, traditionally advancing through knowledge and skills passed down via master-apprentice relationships, has begun to partially adopt more automation-oriented production processes with the development of modern industry and technology. New technologies such as CNC machines, 3D printers, and CAD/CAM software have reduced the need for labor-intensive workforces, though findings suggest they have not entirely eliminated this need and have, in some cases, created new job opportunities. This study is significant in that it reveals how the jewelry design and manufacturing sector, despite its millennia-old heritage, has been reshaped by technological developments brought by the modern industrial revolution, and how labor-intensive workforces have been affected during this process. The study concludes that technological innovations have increased efficiency in the jewelry sector, but their impact on the workforce is complex. While technological devices are replacing traditional handcrafting and the master-apprentice system, traditional techniques and human labor still play an important role. It is predicted that the integration of technology will increase further in the future, leading to a decline in the demand for labor-intensive workforces. The sector is encouraged to invest in education and training programs that will enable the workforce to adapt to new technologies.
