Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the general well-being of men aged 18-50 years, living in the Sarıbeyler region of Balıkesir province, where mining is the livelihood of themajority of the male population to compare miners and the other man who has proffession otherthan mining, to measure healthy lifestyle behaviors, to determine cardiovascular risk levels todetermine the risk behaviors, hypertension and obesity. In our cross-sectional study, data collection was carried out face-to-face with aquestionnaire form between July-August 2022. The universe consists of 409 men, aged 18-50years, residing in the Sarıbeyler region of the Savaştepe district of Balıkesir. It is aimed to reach the whole population. 323 people were reached. Dependent variables of the research; high blood pressure detection and abdominal obesitydetection. Number and percentage for categorical data in descriptive analyses; mean andstandard deviation for parametric continuous data; for nonparametriz continuous data, median % 25-% 75 quartiles are given. Chi-square test was used in univariate analyses, categorical data; Student T test was used for parametrics In continuous data and Mann Whitney U test was usedfor non-parametrics. Binary Logistic Regression was used in multivariate analyses. Chi-squaretest in univariate analyses, categorical data; ın continuous data, Student T test was used forparametrics and Mann Whitney U test was used for non-parametrics. In the research, 323 people were reached. 41.8% of the participants are miners and %58.2 are the group that has a profession other than mining. Compared to the non-miningoccupational group, miners work more physically by lifting heavy and sweating constantly, andtheir education level is lower. High blood pressure was found in %25.4 of all participants. Detection of high blood pressure in miners (%34.2) is more common than in the group with aprofession other than mining (%20.7). Working underground increases the frequency of highblood pressure detection for coal miners. High blood pressure was found to be higher in thoseworking in mines where there is significant dust exposure compared to those working outsidethe mine. Abdominal obesity was found to be higher in miners than in the non-mining group. As a result, the mining profession poses more cardiovascular hazards based on high bloodpressure and abdominal obesity data.
