A study of Turkish language development of pre-school children in the trnc through lullabies, tongue twisters and tales

The main purpose of this research study is to examine language development levels of day nursery children aged 4-5, and to examine the relationships between lullabies, tongue twisters and tales comparatively as perceived by teachers and parents. The second aim of the study is to identify the applications of tales, lullabies and tongue twisters for the language development of children aged 0-6 at day nurseries.The study was descriptive and involved a correlation survey model. The population of the study included day nurseries in Girne, TRNC, children aged 0-6 at the day nurseries, and the parents and teachers of the children. The sample of the study included 53 children aged 4-5 at 7 day nurseries and their parents and teschers. 37,74 % of them were females (n=20) and 62,26 % of them were males (n= 33), selected randomly from varibus socio- economic areas of Girne, TRNC.The data for the study were collected through a language development survey, designed by the researcher. The data analysis involved Krushal Wallis Variance Analysis, t-test, Mann Whitney U and Scheffe Significance test.- The significance value was set at 0,05-The results revealed that the language development levels of the children aged 4-5 do not show significent differences in terms of gender, birth place, and education level of mothers as perceived by teachers and parents. As for education level of fathers, significent statistical differences were observed. There were no statistical differences between the perceptions of parents and teachers for the sample in the study.Key Words : Pre-school children, language development, lullaby, tongue twister, tale.
