SUMMARY Master's Thesis An Analysis On Girls' Inability To Attend School Zeynep SARAC Dicle University Institute of Education Sciences 2024 The aim of this research is to determine the reasons why girls who study the compulsory first eight years of formal education cannot continue formal secondary education and the factors that cause school dropout, and to identify possible solutions. The research was conducted with girls who reside in Mardin/Midyat and cannot continue formal education. Interview technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. Open-ended questions were asked during the interview, and audio recordings were made and notes were taken in the interview form. According to the results of the research, it was determined that the reasons why girls, especially, cannot continue formal education are socioeconomic, sociocultural and family reasons. The cultural structure of the society they live in, customs and traditions, and environmental pressure are among these factors. In addition, students coming from villages far from Midyat center have difficulties in transportation, low or no number of people studying in the family, anxiety about the future and employment problems are also important reasons. While expert guidance and orientation is required to ensure girls' attendance at school, it is also very important to convince families and children of the importance and necessity of attending school. Economic support provided by the state is very important to convince families. In order to prevent girls from dropping out of school, it is necessary to improve socioeconomic conditions, ensure school, family and student cooperation and increase guidance services.
