The choice reasons child development of the students who are getting education in girls' technical and vocational high school

Human beings are born with hidden inherited strengths which they are able to impove byinteracting with their environment, and they generate new cultural values with their improvedstrengths.These values could be objects, processes,opinions,beliefs, methods and so forth; andtheir importance increases depending on how much they satisfy the humans? purposes, needsand movites. Since a human being is able to produce significant values, humans are morecompedent than any other living organism or non-living system. In order to identify a humanas a whole; critical concepts about human development, development system and personalityof human, and human-specific development/learning tasks must be examined at first(Başaran, 2005). The power that pushes humans for improvement is examined with conceptssuch as motive, drive and need. When we have a drive or aneed, it should be satisfied, and weinteract with our environments for seeking satisfaction. Development system of a human alsohas a psychological purpose, it enhances the humans? personality and self by satisfying thehumans? motor, connitive, emotional, social and moral needs.In this context, also considering that %80 of the cognitive development of a humana iscompleted between the ages 0-6 and physical development is also completed mostly betweenages 0-18, we can understand the great importance of 0-18 years period. Experiences in thisperiod lay the foundations of a person?s life. People usually start to have ideas about choice ofprofession at the age 16-18. Then these ideas become more accurate and a person choosehis/her occupation.All araund the wold and also in our country the number of working mothers has beenincreasing and the importance of the aducation in early childhood is understood. Therefore,institutions for early chidhood education become more common. As the early childhoodeducation goes up, more and more teachers are needed to work in preschool andkindergartens. Since there are employment opportunities in early childhood education in ourcountry, people become more interested in vocational schools for girls which are secondaryeducation instituons that have ?Child Development? departments.this research, students of child developmen departments of vocational schools for girlsare exmained. It is questioned that whether students are concious and willing about theirchoice of profession or not, also it examined that how the studens perceive the factorsinfluencing profession chose. These factors are: socioeconomik factors, expectations offamilies, studens? thoughts about their future, the influence of friends environment, students?own wishes and the past academic achievements of students.Participants of this research are the students of vocational school for girls that are locatedin Anatolian side of İstanbul. Six demographic variables and a ?Reasons for ChildDevelopment Department Choice? questionnaire that consists of 28 items are used forresearch. Qestionnaire is prepared by the researcher.Using the findings acquired from research, suggestions are made for the students and theirparents that are going to choose child development departments of vocational students forgirls in order to tell them importance of the department and make them more conscious aboutthe subject.
