Renewal research in the science of Usul al-Fiqh (principles of Islamic jurisprudence) has proliferated among contemporary researchers. These studies range from examining Usul al-Fiqh from an epistemological perspective to comparing it with the humanities and social sciences. One of the most significant contributions in this area is Hasan Hanafi's renewal project, characterized by its inclusiveness and encyclopedic nature, with a particular focus on Islamic sciences, especially Usul al- Fiqh. Although Hanafi's general renewal principles and bases have been discussed in various theses, there has been a lack of attention to the practical, applied aspects of his work . This research thus comes as a complement to those efforts, aiming to explore the renewal features in a specific issue of Usul al-Fiqh, considered one of its most important topics. It benefits from the methodology of the majority of Usul scholars as scattered in their books, tracks the issue in Hanafi's writings and articles, summarizes what has been written about it, and extracts his approach in theory and application within the context of his discussion on the signification of words to meanings, to ascertain the effectiveness of this methodology when applied to the essence of Usul al-Fiqh and its instances . The study utilizes the descriptive method to present and compare both, the methodologies of traditional Usuliyyun and Hasan Hanafi, identifying their features, gathering scattered opinions, and organizing issues to create a coherent understanding for their intended meaning. This is followed by an analytical method to extract the core ideas and main advantages of each approach. Finally, the critical method is employed to evaluate the impact of renewal principles on practical Usuli issues and assess the feasibility of these principles when applied to texts . The study concludes by highlighting the significant difference between the traditional Usuli methodology, which maintains a balance between adherence to established rules and innovation within the discipline, and Hasan Hanafi's renewal methodology, which embraces all forms of change, aiming for social gains and benefits even if it means dismantling established and absolute Islamic rulings. The only constant in Hanafi's approach is change itself . Furthermore, the study underscores the importance of methodical application to specific issues to demonstrate the validity and practical applicability of theoretical concepts. As a matter of fact, Knowledge, in essence, is the application of general rules to specific instances to derive conclusions and benefits.
