Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between sports managers' leadership orientations and organizational myopia. The sample of the study consisted of 178 sports managers working in sports clubs affiliated with the Aydın Amateur Sports Clubs Federation. The Leadership Orientations Scale, developed by Bolman and Deal (1991) and adapted into Turkish by Dereli (2003), and the Organizational Blindness Scale, developed by Seymen, Kılıç, and Kinter (2016), were used in the study. Independent samples t-test, one way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analysis, and Spearman correlation analysis were used in the study. The Games-Howell test, which is sensitive to variance homogeneity, was used to determine the source of differences in the one-way analysis of variance. Considering the assumption that ordinal variables do not follow a normal distribution in practice, Spearman correlation analysis was preferred to determine the relationship between continuous variables (leadership orientations, organizational myopia) and ordinal variables (such as age, years of experience). The relationship between sports managers' leadership orientations and organizational myopia was examined using Pearson correlation analysis. The results of the analysis revealed a negative relationship between the age and years of experience in sports, coaching, and management, and organizational myopia. Sports managers with experience in sports and coaching had lower structural leadership orientations and higher political and symbolic leadership orientations. Sports managers with more coaching and management experience had lower structural leadership orientations and higher human resource, political, and symbolic leadership orientations. The level of organizational myopia in sports managers was found to be positively related to structural leadership orientations and negatively related to human resource, political, and symbolic leadership orientations.
