Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine charismatic leadership characteristics of high school principals and organizational silence levels of teachers. The study was conducted with quantitative research method and relational survey model was used. The population of the study consists of teachers working in the high schools in Van, Ipekyolu, Edremit and Tusba districts in 2017-2018 academic year. The sample of the study consists of teachers selected by simple random sampling method which is one of the random sampling methods. The data of the study was obtained from "Personal Information Form" developed by the researcher, "Charismatic Leadership Scale" (CK-CLS) developed by Conger and Kanungo (1994) and adapted to Turkish by Aykanat (2010), and "Organisational Silence Scale" (OSS) developed by Dyn et al. and adapted to Turkish by Taşkıran (2010). Descriptive analysis (arithmetic average, standard error, standard deviation, frequency, variance, percentage), parametric difference tests (t-test and ANOVA), Pearson Correlation Coefficient analysis were used in the analysis of the data. In order to test the difference between group averages, α =,05 significance level was used. As a result of the research findings; it was obtained that the school principals working in highschools exhibit charismatic leadership behaviors in the dimensions of "vision determination", "environmental sensitivity", "sensitivity to member needs", "maintaining the status quo" and the total point of the scale. In general terms, it was determined that school principals exhibited charismatic leadership behavior. As a result of the analyzes, significant differences were found in terms of gender, seniority and working time with the principal. According to the findings, when the organizational silence levels were examined, it was observed that the teachers have not exhibited silence behavior in the dimension of "defensive silence", but exhibited "protectionist silence" behavior and partially exhibited "accepting silence" behavior, and in general, they have been in "moderate" silence behavior in the total points of scale. Significant differences were found between teachers' organizational silence behaviors and age, professional seniority, working time with principal. In the correlation analysis, a relationship was found between charismatic leadership and organizational silence. Key Words: Leadership, charismatic leadership, silence, organizational silence, school principal, school, teacher
