Examination of high school students' attitudes towards music lesson in terms of various variables

The aim of this research is to contribute to the development of the functioning process of the music course by interpreting the data obtained about the attitudes developed by high school students towards the music lesson during the formal education process and the various variables affecting these attitudes. In the study, the attitudes of high school students towards music lessons were examined, and it was compared and interpreted whether these attitudes differed in terms of students' demographic characteristics, in-school and out-of-school musical lives. In the research, which is designed in accordance with the quantitative nature and screening model, the study group consists of 686 students from three secondary schools in Bozüyük district of Bilecik province. In the data collection phase, the "Attitude Scale Towards the Secondary School Music Lesson" and the "Personal Information Form" developed by the researcher by applying the expert opinion were used. T-test, ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis H test were used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, it was understood that the attitudes of the students towards the music lesson were generally at a low level. When attitude scores were compared according to age, class, gender, school and family income level variables, significant differences were found. However, it was seen that there were significant differences in attitude score levels in terms of the status of being an individual interested in music in the family, being a music teacher at the secondary school level, having a music classroom in their school, playing an instrument other than school instruments, taking part in a musical activity inside and outside the school, and being included in an amateur music group. According to the educational status of the parents, there was no significant difference in their attitude levels.
