The regional development effect of the logistics sector; the example of Siirt province

The concept of logistics, which has been examined in many academic studies in Turkey, first appeared in the literature at the beginning of the 20th century. Although logistics is new in concept, its importance has increased over time and has greatly affected the performance of companies in terms of competitiveness. The movements experienced in the regional development fields on a global basis cause remarkable developments in the aims, practices and processes of the policies in this field. In Turkey, the interregional development gap is quite high. At this point, all academic studies on regional development, including new generation theories, are very valuable in terms of being a guide for constantly updated and self-renewing policy decisions. The subject of this study is the impact of the logistics sector on regional development studies in Turkey and the areas where these studies are concentrated.In this thesis study; By defining the concept of logistics, the role and public aspect of logistics services in regional development is explained. In the research part of the study, the developments in the logistics sector in the province of Siirt, the logistics structure of the province and the public support provided in this regard are discussed. On the other hand, as a data collection method, a face-to-face survey study on the problems in the logistics sector in Siirt and the solution of these problems was used. As a result of this research, it is seen that the province of Siirt is disadvantaged for the logistics sector due to its geographical structure, as well as inadequate due to the lack of infrastructure in transportation, along with strategic and political laws. It has been reported that by paying attention to the conditions of competition in Siirt, theseconditions have been developed and studies have been carried out to improve the services.
