Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the political events and legal developments in the last 200 years of the Lebanon have been discussed as a case of experiencing the open and close civilizations approaches in the modern period. Firstly, the theoretical framework of the open and closed civilization approach to the concept of civilization and the difference between these two approaches is trying to be revealed. It is introduced by Recep Senturk that the open and closed civilization approaches reflect the plane of the break between the West and the rest of the world and that it can guide this breakdown. In this sense, we will examine the period of mutasarrifate in Lebanese history, between the years 1860-1920, where we have observed the harmonious structure of the open civilization approach with the modern state system. Secondly, the period of the closed civilization paradigms between 1920 and 1943 under the French mandate, after World War I, attempted to establish an administrative system and the attempt was made to substitute Western civilizations' for established understanding of civilization; In the third part, the political and social consequences of the closed civilization approach, which has been settled since 1943, when Lebanon gained its independence from France, will be explained and these two approaches will be compared in the conclusion.
