Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictors of borderline personality traits on self-harm and suicidal behaviors in groups with substance use disorder (SUD) and without SUD. The sample of the study consists of a case group (n = 122) diagnosed with substance use disorder (n = 122) receiving treatment in the Psychiatry Department of the Balikli Greek Hospital and a control group (n = 124) of Istanbul Arel University students. Demographic Information Form, Borderline Personality Inventory (BMI), Self-Harm Behavior Assessment Inventory (NSSI) and Suicide Behavior Scale (ISS) were used to collect data. T-Test for independent samples and One-Way ANOVA for non-repetitive measurements (One-Way ANOVA); Pearson correlation analysis and multiple hierarchical regression analysis techniques were used to compare the relationships between variables. As a result of the study, it was found that the level of self-harm behaviors increased as Borderline personality traits increased in the diagnosis and control group. Again, when the scores obtained from the Self-Harm Behavior Inventory were compared in the diagnosed and control groups, no significant difference was observed, but the self-harm methods differed between the two groups. As a result of the study, it was concluded that borderline personality traits and suicidal behavior scores differed from the control group and were higher than the control group. While there was a negative correlation between the gender of the participants and self-harm in the diagnosed group, the relationship between the same variables was found to be positive and statistically significant in the control group. The findings obtained from the research were discussed in the light of the literature and recommendations were made to the researchers. The findings obtained from the research were discussed in the light of the literature and recommendations were made to the researchers.
