Abstract (EN)

Introduction: Conviction and sedantery life style effects quality of life and hip-knee osteoarthritis status on women prisoners.Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the women prisoners and community-dwelling womens in terms of quality of life , hip-knee osteoarthritis and balance.Materials and Methods: A sum of 114 women participated in this study. 54 convicted women join the study from Aydın and Nazilli E-type prisons. And 60 women join the study from same region called control group. SF-36 and WOMAC scales are filled by the participants. Sharpened-Rhomberg and One-leg-stance tests applied for static balance. `15-step forward gait test? and `15-step back gait test? on line applied for dynamic balance. The statistic programme package utilized was SPSS 15.0 for Windows.Results: There were significant differences comparison of foot deformity, cigaratte use and prisoners in family (p<0.05). However, as to the measurements values of waist circumference, age, body weight, BMI, medication, working status and education status between two groups there were no significant differences (p>0.05). As quality of life and osteoarthritis parameters values of two groups were compared, prisoners group?s results were significantly lower than control group?s results (p<0.05). As balance values of two groups were compared, there were no significant differences (p>0.05).Conclusion: Women prisoners?s quality of life and hip-knee osteoarthritis status were high effected from conviction.
