Mandibular conyle fractures: retrospective analysis

SUMMARYMANDIBULAR CONDYLE FRACTURES: RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSISDt. Ferhan YAMANThe aim of this study is to investigate the distribution of mandibular condyle fracturesamong the patients who applied to Dicle University Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgerybetween 2000 to 2004 years and diagnosed as condyle fracture both clinically and radiologically andrecorded as age, sex, ethiology and seasons, the incidence of maxillofacial region fractures, evaluatethe applied to treatment method and the results among the patients who could apply to controlintervals with regard to different parameters. 420 patients were male (72.8%) and 157 (27.2%)patients were woman of total of evaluated 577 patient, 460 mandible fracture (78%) of thesepatients and 146 (25%) condyle fracture were determined among this group. The incidence ofcondyle fracture among mandible fracture was 32%. The primary ethiologic factor is height fall inboth sex group and incidence peaked in summer seasons. 42 of the patients with condyle fracture(36 male and 6 female) could apply to control. 2 of the patients were treated with open reductionand mini-plaque osteosynthesis, the other 40 patient were treated with IMF. The inter incisalopening was more than 40mm (48%) in 20, 30-39mm (43%) in 19, 16-29mm (7%) in 3 patientsamong the 42 patient. By the panoramic radiographic in the position with closed mouth accept onepatient, it was determined that all the condyle heads were in glenoid fossa. Accept one patient all thepatients had acceptable occlusion. One patient had deviation to fracture side by maximum opening.Key words: Mandibular fracture, condyle fracture, retrospective analysis
