Abstract (EN)

The study area consists of pre-Paleozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary units, and the morphological features of the region are controlled by horst-graben systems. The reservoir (hot water aquifer) rocks are Paleozoic (Devonian) marble and schist. The cap rocks, which overlie the Paleozoic reservoir rocks, include Miocene and Pliocene conglomerates, marls and limestones.Geophysical exploration methods play an important role both in geothermal exploration and development. The Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES) method was used to determine the geothermal potential of the Salihli region, an approximately 50km2 area which is one of the most active geothermal areas in Turkey. VES were recorded at 39 points in the study area and the actual layer thickness of each resistivity values was calculated from the VES data using the IPI2Win computer program. This was then used to construct geoelectrical maps and low resistivity anomalies were identified. These anomalies are interpreted to represent hot fluid saturation. In addition, the study area with the map of apparent resistivity and maps of apparent resistivity layer are constitued. These maps were used to determine the location, depth and extent of the reservoir rock, the thickness of cap rock and reservoir rock boundaries.
