Studies on the vocabulary of the poetic Oghuznames

The Oghuzs are a Turkic tribe mentioned in the sources throughout written Turkish history. They prepared the cultural and political ground in their historical process of establishing their states multiple times. They preserved their knowledge and experiences in their national memories combining them with oral tradition and written sources. The Oghuzs' works, in which they described their historical process since their ancestor Oghuz up to their period, are called Oghuzname. Oghuznames, while they were previously in the form of written sources with epic elements, settled into everyday life over time becoming a subject of historiography. There are a total of thirty-three Oghuznames, seven of which are in poetic form and the rest in prose. Within the scope of the study, the Uzunkopru Oghuzname, the Enveri's Oghuzname, the Topkapi Palace Oghuzname and the Kemal's Oghuznames in poetic form that can be accessed in the manuscript were chosen to examine the cultural accumulation and language use of the Oghuzs. The Kemal's Oghuzname is a work noticed to have a feature related to Oghuznames during the study and added to the content of the study. The poetic Oghuznames were transcribed based on Arabic letter texts. The decision was to conduct a vocabulary study on the texts read. Fifty theses with limitations for the vocabulary method were examined in terms of vocabulary. In the end, a method proposal was made for vocabulary studies. These poetic Oghuznames were examined with this proposal. As a result, the conclusions of the intended subjects were reached.
