The research of the attitudes of secondary school students regarding the usage of smart board in maths lessons

The purpose of the research is to study secondary school students' attitudes and views on using smart board in maths lessons in terms of various variables. The scanning model was used in the research. The study group of the research consists of 381 secondary school students who were having education in second term of 2017-2018 education year in a city center from Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. Both qualitative and quantitative datas were collected in research. "Attitude to Smart Boards on Mathematics Scale" by Tataroglu and Erduran (2010) was used to reach quantitative data. A questionnaire including on open ended question was conducted to students in the process of collecting qualitative data. Independent samples t-test and one way variance analysis (ANNOVA) were used to analyze the quantitative data. Also influence quantity was calculated with content analysis. According to research results, secondary school students' attitude on smart board using in math class showed "I'm on the fence" level. In research, secondary school students' attitudes on smart board using in maths class showed no significant difference by considering gender and technological tool variants. The results show that 5th grade students' attitudes are significantly high compared to both 6th graders' and 7th graders' attitudes. Also, it was observed that 6th grade students' attitudes are significantly low compared to 5th, 7th and 8th graders. vii Another result in research is that students' attitudes on smart board using in math class significantly differentiates according to maths success variable. Secondary school students' opinions about smart board using in maths class were summed up as seven themes "effect on learning, usage in class, motivation, attitude, technical features, problems in classroom, irrelevant and meaningless answer". It was concluded that, according to these themes students had opinions in positive, partially and negative categories. In the context of results, it was offered suggestions to teachers, school managers, education politicians and researchers who will make studies in future, about smart board using in maths class.
