Abstract (EN)
Mehmet Şemseddin is an important children litterateur who created many works in the era of constitutional monarchy. He was in charge of the `homeland action? like that era?s artists, writers and poets. When we have a look at the content and structure of his works, we see that he is in the action with Namık Kemal and his friends. Having used a plain language and the term `serving the homeland? demonstrates that he shared the same ideas with the poets and writers of that era demanding independence.Although the author?s name is not much mentioned in the children literature, he was one of the pioneers of the children literature. There are registered 14 works in the libraries and 13 of them are for children. Each of his works is mature enough which can serve to the children literature thoroughly. These publications had a big interest by the public of that era. Especially, the first reading writing books were revised and published many times.Mehmet Şemseddin also created some works in the field of children magazines which were popular that time. In addition, he started the magazine called ?Arkadaş? created in a European style. We learn from the readers? letters that his three different children magazines were popular among that period?s children. The periodical publications for children were a big evolution in the field of children magazine business. The author continued his studies seizing a contemporary children magazine understanding in that period. His magazine publications were a sample for the other magazines of that time. In this respect, Mehmet Şemseddin?s periodical works are worth observing. The magazines published by him alone were popular and republished with different names and continued its publication life.As there were no investigations made about Mehmet Şemseddin?s studies, we were to observe his children magazines. The author?s magazines called Arkadaş, Çocuklara Arkadaş and Çocuklara Talim constituted our field study. These three magazines were investigated thoroughly in our studies. General information was given, an index prepared, the headlines were observed and samples were given from the published magazines so that the study became more concrete.Besides the observation of the magazines, general information was given about the author?s works by scanning the works in the libraries. The information given about these works helps us to know the author better and made our study more objective. The investigated studies of him made his place in the children literature more concrete. The author had a contemporary education understanding and served to children literature with a pedagogics approach until the end of his life. He was also in charge of `serving the homeland? besides magazine and book publishing and his child?s education. Mehmet Şemseddin with his 21 different works was one of the pioneers of after the Tanzimat children literature in the constitutional monarchy era.
