Writing instructions in the book named Kitâbet Muallimi by Melekzâde Fuad

Language is one of the most basic elements that enable human being as a social being communication. Language skills that enable people to understand and express are divided into four main elements. These elements are listening, speaking, reading and writing, respectively. These elements have been gathered under the title of four basic language skills, and each of them has become a separate field on which studies are conducted. In this study, an examination was made on the teaching of writing skill from these skill areas. It is aimed to gain the students various principles and aims of writing education through writing lessons. From past to present, writing lessons and achievements have been planned basically to gain and develop writing skills. These lessons sometimes included calligraphy and spelling lessons. Throughout history, the names prosaise literature, literary composition and magazines in which prose writings are collected have been used to include similar meanings with writing skill; lessons about writing were also taught with these names. In this study, the work named "Kitâbet Muallimi", which was written as a textbook by Melekzâde Fuad at the beginning of the 20th century in the field of writing education, was analyzed by transliterating it. In this study, it is aimed to latinization of the Kitâbet Muallimi and to determine the elements for teaching writing skills. The data on the copy of the book, which was published in 1905 by the Istanbul Company-i Mürettebiye Printing House, was obtained by using the document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods. Kitâbet Muallimi has been written as a coursebook, that includes theoretical information, examples and various applications on teaching writing. The work begins with a section such as the preface, which includes the author's reason for writing such a coursebook and ends with a spelling chart showing the correct and incorrect spellings of some words. In the book, information about the origin of the language, the conditions of being a good scribe, the importance of the script and the rules of writing are given. The work consists of two books and three parts. In the book, the subjects are explained by dividing the lessons and the application examples are given. Among the topics covered, there are topics such as spelling and grammar rules, text types such as letters, petition, and official writing types. When the work is examined in a holistic way, it has been determined that the subjects are conveyed in a short and understandable way in the first two parts of the work, and in a complicated way in the second piece and the third part. The examples given to put the information given in the work into practice show that the work is presented with an understanding of writing education based on practice.
