Investigation of effect of mastectomy and reconstructive operation after mastectomy on depression, self-esteem, and self-efficacy among breast cancer patients

The aim of these research is the comparison between the depression, self-esteem and self-efficacy beliefs scores of breast cancer patients who also got the diagnosis of mastectomy and had an after mastectomy reconstructive operation and healthy people. The sample of this researchincluded between January and July 2018 at the Medical Oncology Clinic of the Mersin City Hospital and the Breast Polyclinic using the data of 75 mastectomy patients, 32 patients who had an after mastectomy reconstructive operation and 133 healthy women. So in total there are 240 persons who took part in this survey. Personal information form, The Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory, The General Self-Efficacy Scale and The Beck Depression Inventory where used to collect the data of this survey. The result of the survey shows us, that the depression level of mastectomy patients is higher than the one of patients who had an after mastectomy reconstructive operation. Furthermore it has been determined, that in comparison to mastectomy patients who had an after mastectomy reconstructive operation, the believing in self-esteem and self- efficacy of mastectomy patients is lower.
