Evaluation of agricultural insurance practices in Toroslar district of Mersin

Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, it is aimed to evaluate the Agricultural Insurance Practices in the Mediterranean basin, Mersin Province, Toroslar District, and to determine the factors affecting the producers' decisions to have agricultural insurance or not. The producers of Toroslar district, who were surveyed with the simple random sample method, constituted the main population of the research. A face-to-face interview was conducted with a total of (328) producers in 41 Rural Districts (179) producing with agricultural insurance and 149 producing without agricultural insurance. The data obtained covers the production year of 2021. Gender, age, education level, number of family members, cultivated land, average annual agricultural turnover, non-agricultural income, financing resources, social security status, risk perception of producers, reasons for choosing to have agricultural insurance or not, agricultural insurance adoption status was examined. It is found that 54.6% of farmers have agricultural insurance, for the most of them (96.6 %) reason of having insurance is using agricultural credit that is insurance must be needed. It also found that only 25% of farmers lives permanently in the villages. Keywords: TARSİM, Agricultural Insurance, Toroslar, Mersin
