Ill DETERMINE AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE FIRST AID KNOWLEDGE LEVEL OF APPRENTICES WORKING AT THE METAL PROCESSING BRANCH (Ph.D. Thesis) Adnan A?DI GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCD2NCE AND TECHNOLOGY February 2000 ABSTRACT This research is of intervention nature concerning with the determination of level of the first aid knowledge of the apprentices who are training at the Ankara, Ostim Apprenticeship Training Centre and those working at the metal processing branch, and to bringing out the changes thanks to first aid training and advances training guidebook on knowledge. This research is related with approximately 2000 apprentices working at the enterprises operating on metal work branch at the Ostim Organised Industrial Site. This research has been applied to all of 322 apprentices who are training at the Ostim Apprenticeship Training Centre and at the same time working at the metal work branch. 93,2% of apprentices have not taken any first aid training previously. 28,2% of apprentices had an occupational accident beforehand, and 21,5% of them witnessed occupational accident not personally but around their environment. 36,3% of the occupational accidents have occurred in the form of hand and fingerIV injuries. Knowledge of the apprentices on first aid is insufficient. There is no course on this subject in the detailed programme. After first aid training to the apprentices, 6,5513 point of increase was observed on the knowledge level of apprentices (p>0,05).
