Examination of Mevlânâ's Mesnevî accordingto Thompson's index of motifs

In this study, a detailed reading of Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi's (1207-1273) work named Mesnevî was made and the motifs used in the work were examined. The motifs determined were classified according to Stith Thompson's (1885-1976) motif index and evaluated with analytical-descriptive methods by scanning the sources related to literature, mythology, archaeology and religion. While these examinations were being made, interdisciplinary studies were carried out and literature scans were made on this subject. As a result, it was determined that Mevlana frequently used many motifs with universal value in a way that would have different meanings. The symbolic expressions made by the poet through motifs provided the study with a wide research area open to interpretation.
