Midyat / hapisnas (Mercimekli) village and protection problems

Hapisnas Village, which was renamed as Mercimekli in 1965, is still called by its original name even today. In this study, I find it right to use the name of the old Hapisnas.Hapisnas Village has an important place in the region in terms of its location and the values it has. Hapisnas Village, a Syriac settlement, has monumental and many traditional buildings such as monastery, church, chapel, rock tombs, which are historical values. The Christian population of Midyat and its vicinity, the majority of which were formed by Syriacs, migrated to major cities or abroad. Due to the influence of these immigrants, the Christian population has fallen to the minority status according to the Muslim population.Hapisnas Village is a Syriac Village that dates back to the 5th century and shows similarity with the Midyat center in social and architectural direction. A meeting and some publications on the preciousness and cultural richness of this settlement are being made. However, they are aimed at general publicity rather than a scientific work. It is aimed to determine the protection problems and to develop a solution proposal for these problems by making social and architectural determination studies in this thesis where Hapisnas Village, which has less concrete structure and more traditional architecture is protected.In the village where the number of registered buildings is few, it is aimed to present new registration proposals within the scope of the thesis.In the village of Hapisnas where the field work was completed, surveillance projects of qualified traditional houses were taken and the general and individual photographs of the village were taken and detected. In addition, social survey questions have been prepared with people residing in the village. Graphs and tables were prepared as a result of the outcome data and the conditions in the country were analyzed and evaluated.
