Abstract (EN)
Temporomandibular joint irregularities; It includes clinical problems of masticatory muscles, temporomandibular joint and combinations of these structures. Its symptoms include pain in the temporomandibular joint and related structures, joint sounds, limitation in mandibular movements, limitation or deviation in jaw opening. Most patients improve with a combination of noninvasive treatments, including pharmacotherapy, physical therapy, and occlusal splints. This study aimed to evaluate the analgesic effectiveness of high phenolic olive oil in individuals with myofascial pain. The study was completed with 98 participants aged between 18-40 who applied to our clinic with complaints of myofascial pain.Participants were randomly divided into two groups: patients receiving natural extra virgin olive oil (NSZY) and high phenolic olive oil (YFZY). All participants used occlusal splints throughout their treatment period.Clinical parameters at the beginning of treatment, 1st week, 2nd week, 3rd week and 4th week after treatment were evaluated for diagnosis and follow-up using the DC/TMD form.In addition, the number of painful muscle areas of the patients, maximum unaided mouth opening, VAS (visual analog scale / visual pain scale) and the number of paracetamol medications used were recorded at the initial appointment of the treatment and at the 1st week, 2nd week, 3rd week and 4th week follow-up appointments after the treatment. recorded in the follow-up form.In both groups, a decrease in the number of painful muscle areas and VAS value and an increase in maximum unaided mouth opening were observed at the 4th week follow-up. There is no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of the number of painful muscle areas, maximum unaided mouth opening and VAS change values (p>0.05).Considering the results obtained from our study, it was seen that although YFZY was slightly more effective than NSZY, there was no significant difference between the groups. Therefore, YFZY can be used safely in the treatment of TMD.
