Abstract (EN)
This study focuses on the creation of interdisciplinary choreography in the context of engineering discipline. What is meant by the interdisciplinarity mentioned in the study is the relationship between engineering and dance discipline. Under the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic, the study, design and presentation of the thesis work in digital environment has taken the work out of these two disciplines, and digital art production has become an important part of the work of art. Creating the work interdisciplinary has occurred naturally with the inclusion of another discipline. I personally think that movement and design are both related to choreography and engineering. For this reason, in this context, in the introduction part of my Thesis / Work, I talked about movement, mechanics as well as the similarities of mechanism with dramaturgy. In the continuation of the part, I conveyed the dance practices, unstable equilibrium, energy and energy dramaturgy approach in theater art, which was established in the Theater Research Laboratory (TAL), an interdisciplinary unit where I worked and created projects for many years, due to its connection to the subject and its impact on my personal experience. At the end of this part, I discussed some of the choreographies I created from an engineering point of view, that can be examples of my artistic practices. I talked about experiences in art and technology in the development part of my work. As an example, I quoted some of the "9 Evenings" performances that took place in New York in the 1960s, which is a very special event where the performances were enriched with the participation of different disciplines. In this part, I also presented examples of the works of different choreographers; Trisha Brown, Taldans, Mehmet Sander, Tuğçe Ulugün Tuna, who produce works with a similar approach and work interdisciplinary. In the last part of my thesis, I analyzed my Thesis / Work, 'Creation of Choreography in the Context of Engineering Discipline'. I explained the video montage programs and the interface programs used for the website. For the content of the videos, two main disciplines used in the designs; I aimed to show the relationship between engineering and choreography, how and why I did the editing, and how I turned it into a new material. I have produced a new work where my choreographic archive can be visited on a digital platform and interactively. The choreography written for the Thesis / Work will be watched as it progresses depending on the viewer's choices. My Thesis / Work presented on the digital platform is about the relationship of 150 short videos with each other. Approximately 90 different screen designs have been made throughout the play. There are two or three videos on each screen. The viewer is constantly directed to another screen by making a selection on the videos. When one of the videos is selected, it is not known what to watch on the next screen. Although the total number of videos is 150, only 20 screens can be visited and approximately 40 videos can be watched in one sequence. At the end of a stream, approximately 100 videos will remain unwatched, and those who want to watch the remaining videos will return to the beginning of the work for a new viewing.
