The subject of education in the novels of Mükerrem Kamil Su

In this study, titled "The Issue of Education in the Novels of Mükerrem Kamil Su", twenty-one novels of the author for adults were examined. The author also has novels written for children, but these novels are not included in the study. Mükerrem Kamil Su is one of the first female teachers of the Republican era. We understand that he is quite an idealist, both from his writings and from his works. The author frequently deals with Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions in his novels. Novels necessarily reflect the period in which they were written; It is used as a background in the novels of the national struggle and the period in which the author lived. The protagonists of all twenty-one novels are women. The author wants to create a woman image in his novels. The author wants women to exist as an educated individual in society and creates characters accordingly. However, uneducated women who have adopted the traditional understanding in the novels are also included in the novels. In the novels, educated women find a way to stay and be happy despite bad events happen to them, while uneducated women are dragged into unhappiness. Characters in novels; appears as a teacher, doctor, and lawyer. Although there are also characters who are businessmen working in any government office, the majority of the heroes of the novel are primarily teachers, then doctors and lawyers. Female teachers are mostly idealistic characters. They always want to work in Anatolia. But they can never find peace in these towns and villages and they have to struggle with the bigotry and immorality of these places. Finally, they return to their hometown, the big city. The female teachers in the novels bear traces of Mükerrem Kâmil Su's life. Writing books after retiring from teaching or while teaching. The triangle of Balıkesir, Ankara and Istanbul forming the dominant places in the novels is just a few of these traces. In the works of Mükerrem Kâmil Su, education has been examined within the framework of five main headings. 1- Education in the Family, 2- Women's Education, 3- Teacher Characters, 4- Education and Marriage, 5- Art and Education. As a result of the study, it was seen that family, marriage, art, education all take place in each other and complement each other. It is emphasized in the novels that there can be no art in a place where there is no education. Almost all educated characters have a deep interest in art, especially in the author's early novels.
