A study about the views of the students of music education department about the using of the popular music in music lessons as education material in the elementary educations music lessons: the case of Gazi University

In this study, it was aimed try to determine whether the pre-service music teacher prefer the using of popular music in music lectures as instructional materials.For this purpose, a measurement tool, includes scales of opinion toward popular music and of opinions toward using of popular music as educational materials, was developed by researcher in order to data gathered. Also the measurement tool includes some demographical items. The measurement tool was administered to 112 pre-service music teachers.According to the mainly finding of this study, pre-service music teachers? opinions towards using popular music were also different among levels of their grade and kinds of their favorite music.On the other side, the opinions of pre-service music teachers about using the popular music in learning activities were affected by their popular music opinions.
