Abstract (EN)
The aim of this thesis is to examine music teacher candidates' ability to listen to the music they perform on their instruments according to various variables. These variables are: duration of experience on their instruments, weekly practice time on their instruments, time allocated for listening to music, the type of music they listen to, listening to different interpretations of the music they play on their instruments, academic achievement levels in field instrument courses and academic achievement levels in musical hearing-reading-writing courses. The sample group of the research consists of 332 students studying in the 1st, 2 st, 3 st and 4th grades in the music education departments of Gazi, Ankara Music and Fine Arts, Aydın Adnan Menderes, Balıkesir, Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Bursa Uludağ, Atatürk, Dokuz Eylül, Necmettin Erbakan, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir, Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa and Trabzon Universities in the 2023-2024 academic year. This research was analyzed with the survey model, which is a quantitative research method. The data of the study were collected with personal information form and scale for the evaluation of musicians' ability to listen to the music they perform on their instruments. The personal information form created by the researcher includes 12 questions about the variables of the study. The scale for the evaluation of musicians' ability to listen to the music they perform on their instruments was developed by Aydıner Uygun in 2021-2023. This scale consists of 4 sub-dimensions and 25 items related to musicians' listening skills. The data obtained were processed into the SPSS 26.0 program and analyzed under four main headings: associative, analytical, improvement and aesthetic listening. As a result of the research; it was determined that the students' listening skills to the music they performed created significant differences at different levels on all determined variables. In addition, it was seen that the duration of the students' practice on their instruments and the situation of listening to different interpretations of the compositions they practiced had an effect on all listening skills. Among the variables examined, it was determined that the situation of listening to different interpretations of a composition had a high effect on listening skills for suggestions for improvement. Keywords: Music Teacher Candidate, Music Listening, Listening Skills, Music Education.
