Abstract (EN)
OBJECTIVE: Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha); is a cytokine that plays a role in the pathogenesis of many rheumatic diseases. The drugs targeting TNF-alpha, which is also involved in the pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis and non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis, are also used in the treatment of these diseases.Recently, we aimed to investigate serum oxytocin levels in AS and active SpA patients with the publication of studies that oxytocin inhibits TNF-alpha. Patients and methods: Those who applied to the Rheumatology polyclinic between March 2017 and October 2017 were taken to the study by getting permission.Patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and non-radiographic lung spondyloarthritis (SpA) and people who comply with exclusion criteria were included in the study as a control group.Oxytocin levels of the patient groups were measured. Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index (BASMI), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were measured to determine disease activity.Body mass indexes and HLA-B27 of patients were noted. Parameters such as smoking habits, drug use were questioned. Results: We compared the patient groups to the control group. Significant differences were found in terms of age and gender. There was no significant difference between serum oxytocin levels in all 3 groups, but a negative correlation was found between disease activity and oxytocin levels in patient groups. CONCLUSIONS: The finding of Negative correlation between serum oxytocin levels and disease activity may lead to the use of these preparations in active disease. In non-radiographic SpA and ankylosing spondylitis patients, it may be the basis for making new studies on the use in active disease.
