Comparison of Nurettin Albayrak's Dictionary of Turkish Proverbs and Proverbs in Manzûme-i Durûb-ı Emsâl, Durûb-ı Emsâl and Atalar Sözü Treatises (Evaluation and index)

A proverb is an anonymous, short, concise and stereotyped word that conveys the thoughts of the ancestors, based on their centuries-long observations and experiences, in the form of advice and judgment. Many compilations have been prepared on the proverbs found in almost every work since the oldest written Turkish texts we have. In this study, the treatises of Hıfzî's Manzûme-i Durûb-ı Emsâl (1728-30), Ahmed Vacid's Durûb-ı Emsâl (1858) and Haşim Veli's Atalar Sözü (1926) and Nurettin Albayrak's Türkiye Türkçesinde Atasözleri are discussed. The proverbs in the aforementioned works were compared, and the development of proverb records and compilation of proverbs from the 18th century to the present was tried to be followed. In the Introduction, the definition and characteristics of proverb are explained, basic works about proverbs are mentioned, and the history of proverb studies in Türkiye and Turkic republics is emphasized. In the First Chapter, the works discussed in the study and the authors of these works are introduced. In the Second Chapter, especially the proverbs in Turkey Turkish, proverbs are compared and the differences in word and syntax are stated. With the Conclusion, Index, References and Appendices, the work is completed.
