Abstract (EN)
The prevalence of obesity, one of the 10 most risky diseases in the world, is increasing day by day. Many different methods are used for the treatment of obesity. Nutritional therapy and increased physical activity level are some of them. Electromyostimulation (EMS) applications are one of the current preferred approaches for the treatment of obesity with exercise. This study was conducted to determine the effects of short-term EMS exercises with different diet types on body composition in obese women. A total of 90 volunteer women, including EMS (n=18), EMS and intermittent fasting diet group (EMS+AO) (n=18), EMS and calorie restricted diet group (EMS+KK) (n=18), intermittent fasting diet group (AO) (n=18) and calorie restricted diet group (KK) (n=18), participated in the study. The exercise groups received EMS exercises for 27 minutes a day, 2 days a week for 4 weeks. The other groups followed the diet programs given to them for 4 weeks. All body composition components of the groups such as BMI, body weight, body fat weight, skeletal muscle weight were determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis twice as pretest and posttest. SPSS package program was used for statistical analyses and two-way repeated measures ANOVA was used to determine changes and differences. Statistical significance was accepted as p<0.05. As a result of the analysis; BMI, basal metabolic rate, body protein content, body mineral content, body weight, body fat weight, skeletal muscle weight, body water content, body fat percentage, visceral fat level, right and left arm fat mass, right and left leg fat mass, right and left leg muscle mass, right and left leg muscle mass, trunk muscle and fat mass parameters showed a significant difference in favor of the last test (p<0.05). In conclusion, it can be said that EMS exercises and diet programs applied in the study have positive effects on body composition and can be recommended as one of the methods to be preferred in the treatment of obesity in women.
