The level of knowledge of student nurses towards recognizing violence against women

Purpose: This research was conducted in a descriptive and cross-sectional pattern in order to determine the knowledge levels of nursing students to recognize violence against women. Method: The universe of the study was composed of nursing students studying at the Department of nursing of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Erzincan Binali Yildirim University, while the sample consisted of a total of 408 people.The "Personal Information Form" and the "Scale for Nurses and Midwives to Recognize the Symptoms of Violence against Women (NMWAVSRS)" were used as data collection tools.The data were collected by one-on-one interview method with the students.The data were analyzed in SPSS environment; number, average, percentage, correlation analysis, t test and ANOVA were used.ethical permissions for conducting the study and from the participants informed consent has been obtained. Findings: The average age of the sample was 20.9 years and it consisted mainly of women. The physical symptoms sub-dimension of NMWAVSRS showed a high level of correlation with the sum of the scale.The correlation between the physical symptoms sub-dimension and the emotional symptoms sub-dimension was found to be at a moderate level. It was found that female students and students who want violence against women education to be included in undergraduate education have lower levels of identifying the symptoms of violence against women. In addition, the father's educational status of those who have higher education , it has been determined that those who want to have violence against women education in undergraduate education and those who have not received violence against women education have lower levels of defining emotional violence against women. Result: As a result of this study, it was concluded that nursing students' insufficient level of identifying the symptoms of violence against women,gender, receiving violence education, requesting violence against women education in undergraduate education, variables such as father education are factors related to identifying the physical or emotional symptoms of violence against women.
